Georgetown, designed by Hannah Fettig, is a simple cardigan with a shawl-type collar well-suited for advanced beginners. It is the perfect sweater for those who have never knit one before. It can be knit in pieces or knit mostly in the round from the bottom up. I chose a classic Irish tweed from Donegal, Ireland. Soft Donegal is as indestructible as a yarn can get. Since the yarn is not over-processed, you can still smell the lanolin in it. It is meant for outerwear so it is not soft and drapey like alpaca. It has body and texture and substance. It's knits into the kind of sweater that is passed down from generation to generation. It is a classic in every sense of the word.
Now I could be wrong, but it seems to me that hand-dyed sock yarns will eventually fall from favor like novelty yarns did years ago. I'm not sure what the next trend will be but I am hoping it will be a return to classic yarns. And by carrying Soft Donegal (the real deal which is hard to find in the U.S.), I'll be ahead of the curve. Either that or behind the 8 ball! And selfishly, I sort of don't care because I love this stuff!!!!!! Yep, I'm a hell of a business woman!
